It symbolizes the great fear and terror throughout the novel as it has been experienced by a little girl and her family. the Taliban had limited education and general knowledge which makes them more eager to be harsh and kill the fortunate Afghanistan.
This book is seen through a 13 year old girl prospective as the Taliban is at war in Afghanistan. In this book a Parvana has been through a lot from separation, to be treated as a boy and has been forced to work so she could help pay for her family.
Parvana had to work day in and day out but by accomplishing this she would need to have a makeover. In Afghanistan woman were supposed to stay inside and men had to get a job and buy food for the family. But in Parvana's family it didn't work out like that, her father was sent away to prison not knowing when he would be back so they had to come up with a conclusion.
